Watch on-demand for APA and General CEU Credit coming soon

Join us as we host Dustin Wygant, PhD, Professor of Psychology and Executive Director of Integrated Behavioral Health at Eastern Kentucky University as he presents his presentation on dimensional versus categorical models for operationalizing mental illness. The presentation will begin with a discussion of our current, DSM-focused categorical model and highlight all of the limitations of that approach to diagnosing mental illness. We will then move into a discussion of the dimensional approach to conceptualizing mental illness, highlight recent developments of the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP). The speaker will use a forensic case conceptualized from both the categorical and dimensional perspectives to better explain the concepts and add an element of forensic assessment. Treatment implications for the dimensional model will also be discussed.

At the end of the presentation, attendees will:
1. Understand the limitations of the categorical model for operationalizing psychopathology.
2. Understand dimensional models of psychopathology, particularly the HiTOP model.
